My abiding memory of Bob Cobbing, is of seeing him perform with Hugh
Metcalfe at Le Caribe bar in Stoke Newington, North London. The
performance was sparsely attended and extremely incongruous at a venue
that was probably expecting 'cool jazz', Not in the slightest bit bothered by
the curious surroundings they performed energetically & enthusiastically,
with Lol Coxhill guesting on a couple of tracks. Somehow I got the idea to
ask Bob to perform a badge I was wearing, of a graphic taken from a bottle
of cava, he looked bemused for a couple of seconds, probably not used to
doing requests, then took off his glasses, studied the badge and then launched
into a freeform sound poem using the words on the badge. This improvised
poem was very similar to the sound poems on the first track of this CD.
